The time has come

Harrison turned three a month ago and he's still in a crib. We love that he's in a crib and believe it or not, so does he! In fact, we still have the bumper on the crib. That's the thing they tell you to take off when the baby can pull himself up to standing. In our case it serves to keep the nummies in. (but that's another blog post - STILL using pacifiers!!)

Harrison has a few friends that can climb in and out of their own cribs but he has never tried... that is, until last week. During 'naptime' I caught him sitting on the top rail twice. On Friday we put him down and he was playing for a minute and then crying so I went in and he was hanging from the outside of the crib. I think he probably climbed to the top again and slipped down. So I guess it's finally time to get a bed. Ugh. We already have one in mind. It's this really cute fire truck bed (that uses his crib mattress) so it's transitional. He can get in and out but it's still not a big bed that he'll roll right out of. Plus I think the timing is right for this bed because he announced during dinner last night that he is going to be a firefighter (sorry Dad, no police officer from this house)when he grows up. We play firefighter all day long. The poor firefighters shopping at Safeway today were followed around by a sweet 3 year old boy asking them where the emergency was and telling them he was going to be a firefighter too. I guess it's time but look for future posts of him not staying in his bed at bedtime and us pulling our hair out. (hopefully not!)

Will he ever be underwear boy?

Before Harrison's big third birthday he promised us that after the big day he'd begin using the toilet. This was completely unprompted. He had this idea himself. Pretty exciting, huh? So the day came and went and nothing. He refuses to use it. I wouldn't push him if I didn't think he was ready but he clearly knows when he has to go to the bathroom. He loves to be naked and he'll run around for a long time but when he has to pee he asks for his diaper to be put on. What?? He went pee in the toilet once... back in November! So at his three year check-up this week his pediatrician said to put all potty things away and stop talking about it for a month. Then try again. By then it should be warmer (remember, we live in Seattle..) and we can just let him go without a diaper or put on underwear and see what happens (outside - no pee on my new carpet please!) It will be pretty exciting when he does lose the diapers though - look how cute he is in underwear!

He's 3!

Yep, it was 3 years ago yesterday that Harrison was born. And it was 3 years ago that I thought I'd never walk again. I had to keep reminding myself that every other woman I know that gives birth does actually walk again. But with 3rd degree lacerations and a donut as my best friend I just wasn't sure. Anyway, we had a really fun Cars birthday party for Harrison yesterday. (I still can't believe he's 3!) We topped it all off with dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. It's where Dave and I met so we like to take Harrison every year on his birthday. It's where our story began.

I'm in love...

Yes, it's true - I'm in love!!! Who knew love could be so sweet? These ice cream sandwiches are the best!! And they may also be the reason my pants are so tight. I can't stop eating them. They are a total tease. They only put 4 of them in a box. And they aren't always easy to find. So last time I hit Jo Jo's (Trader Joes) I bought 2 boxes (and they're almost gone already!). I don't why I am telling you about them because now I'm afraid you'll go buy them and once again the shelf will be empty when I get there!

Before and after - the first with many more to come

You probably know the story of how we ended up in our cute blue house... well, we bought a townhouse (that I never really loved) and lived in it for 4 years. It was fine for Dave and I but once Harrison arrived and grew bigger the house somehow grew smaller. So we sold the townhouse and moved last May. We rented a house from a crazy family that drove by often admiring their lawn and even let themselves in once to turn on the sprinklers! But it all turned out great for us in the end because the crazies let us out of our lease and a month later we found our new home.

As you know, our new home is blue. Well, the people that we bought it from really liked that color a lot. Not only was the exterior of our home blue but so was the dining room, sponge paint blue in the master bedroom, blue going down the stairs to the basement... But can you believe they had 2 young boys and their room was NOT blue. It's the only room in the house that we wanted blue. So here you are - the before and after for Harrison's new room. Enjoy.

Push or fall?

This was at the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium in Arizona. Was it a push or did the starfish fall? Hmmm... I thought maybe it fell but then after the camera wasn't rolling he asked if he could push another one down. That's my boy.

Home from Arizona

We had a great trip to Arizona. Although the highs were only in the low 60s we still had fun. I was an obvious tourist in my tank top and shorts.

We had fun hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa. We walked around their neighborhood and lake. We visited the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium. The aquarium just opened within the last few months. It was really good and so much better than the Seattle Aquarium. We drove to Wickenburg for the Gold Rush Festival. We ate our lunch near a stage where they were playing 50s music and Harrison got up and danced. People were taking his picture and cheering for him. It was really funny! Back at their house Harrison helped Grandpa wash the minivan one day.

And best of all my husband surprised me by booking a massage for me while we were there! Yea! I wonder if he would've done it if I hadn't asked numerous times what he was getting me for Valentine's Day.
